HELPING AT BACKPACKERS
Every supporting church has a BACKPACKERS Rep. Do speak to them if you would like to help. They can give you more information about the different roles. If you cannot contact your church rep for any reason, please see the Contact Us page for details of how to e-mail the organisers.
Backpackers runs Tuesday to Friday between 9.00 and 4.30 for helpers.
“If I’d known in advance what the format was and how much fun and support there is – I’d have volunteered for BACKPACKERS years ago!!” Tim Shackleton, August 2007
During BACKPACKERS Week the following are needed:
Group Leaders (18+) & Assistant Group Leaders (16+) & Group Helpers (13+)
Working in a small team looking after about 10 children. These are THE critical roles at BACKPACKERS. The number of children that are able to attend depends on the number of group personnel available.
Activity Leaders & Helpers
These are part of teams that run activities for several groups of children at a time. For BACKPACKERS 2019 the planned activities are Craft, Games, Performing, and Thinking.
MiniPackers is a crèche for the younger children of helpers who are on site.
Providing refreshments for the children and helpers at BACKPACKERS
First Aid Team
Requires a relevant, current First Aid certificate
Welcoming visitors and providing information for parents and helpers.
Site maintenance & Facilities
Keeping the site clean and safe throughout the week.
Making sure all the equipment is safe when BACKPACKERS is not running
Roles off-site - can't be there during the week? There's still many ways you can help. Perhaps preparing the materials the children will use or helping to set up and dismantle the site... and more - please ask! Importantly, we can all pray! Please do pray for everyone and everything about BACKPACKERS.
